Kington Walking festival is now in its fifth year and is a firm fixture in the calendar of those who love the chance to get out and about and explore the outdoors. The historic drovers’ town of Kington is nestled below Hergest Ridge and stands alone, from a walking perspective, and as a result, has more long-distance paths converging on the town than almost anywhere else in the UK.
Our festival programme comprises 43 guided walks and one self-led walk. There are walks for all abilities, including a section of Offa’s Dyke, the 8 peaks challenge, a two day walks up on the moors, a tour of historic cider orchards, several pub rambles, some geology and archaeology themed walks and the chance to explore secret gardens in Kington.
Plus a supporting programme of events, including an pre-historic archaeology talk on the Dorstone Hill dig around Arthur’s Stone, a safety in the hills workshop and John Jones with the Reluctant Ramblers, to while away an evening or two. There is a fantastic Open Air Goulash Evening to Kick off proceedings on Thursday 15 September with food prepared by Trish MacCurrach with beer from Hobsons Brewery. Held in The Market Hall at Kington from 6pm and costs £6.00.
