Afternoon Tea in Herefordshire

Indulge in the Art of British Tradition for Afternoon Tea Week 12-18 August … and beyond

It is said that the tradition of Afternoon Tea originated in the 1800s when dinner was served later in the evening, leaving a significant gap between luncheon and the evening meal. Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford, is credited with formalising it into a social occasion. Once Queen Victoria began hosting Afternoon Tea receptions, it became a much more fanciful affair.

The uplifting effects and refinement of tea, coupled with the delights of dainty sandwiches and sweet treats (not too heavy, we don’t want to spoil dinner), have maintained this tradition as a cherished occasion. Today, Afternoon Tea is enjoying a lovely and ever more glamorous revival.

Here are our recommendations for a quintessential Afternoon Tea experience around Herefordshire. Whether you’re looking for a unique celebration or just a relaxed time to catch up with friends while enjoying delicious food in beautiful surroundings, we’ve gathered the best options for you.
