
Cathedrals at Night
This year, on Saturday 17 May, many Church of England cathedrals will open their doors after hours and welcome in people of all ages to experience and explore their beautiful buildings and to enjoy a taste of cathedral life.
Discover what Hereford Cathedral has to offer on Saturday 17 May any time between 5:30pm – 9pm.
Cathedral at Night free activities include:
- Visit the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, which will have free entry for one night only!
- Tours up to the Bellringing Chamber to meet the Cathedral Bellringers.
- Join a mini cathedral tour, led by our experienced guides.
- Come and immerse yourself in a gentle sound experience, performed by local choir Companion Voices, in the Lady Chapel from 7pm -8.30pm.
- Experience spoken word poetry, performed by local artist and poet ‘Rosie With Words’. Some of the poems Rosie will be sharing, have been inspired by the cathedral.
- Take some time out to reflect in the quiet and calm of our small chapels and the beautiful crypt which will be candlelit for the evening.
- Hear the famous Father Willis organ in action at 8.30pm, performed by Assistant Director of Music, Peter Dyke!
- Meet the cathedral Gardeners and the Broderers, volunteer groups who help to maintain the history and heritage of the cathedral.
- The cathedral team will be there to share all you need to know about upcoming events, activities and tours available across the year.
