Each year we host the popular Jazz in the Garden series on Friday lunchtimes throughout the summer. This year, due to the ongoing restrictions, we are instead hosting two evening concerts in the stunning surroundings of the cathedral nave. We will be welcoming back some regular performers and they will be joined by new supporting acts.
The Whiskey River Acoustic Quartet will be headlining Nave Summer Sessions on Friday 30 July, supported by Skiffle and Americana duo LIV42DAY. Whiskey River have been serving up their unique mix of Americana, Roots, Blues, Cajun, Bluegrass and Folk for many years, across Herefordshire, the UK and overseas too. They’re made up of Martin Blake (vocals, guitar, banjo), Aidan Sheehan (vocals, accordion, harmonica, mandolin, whistles), Alan Cooper (fiddle) and Dennis Schiavon (double bass, vocals). Debs Hancock and The Jazz Dragons will headline Nave Summer Sessions on Friday 20 August. Welsh Jazz vocalist, Debs Hancock, will lend some smooth sophistication to the evening, accompanied Guy Shotton (piano), Olly Blanchflower (double bass) and Greg Sterland (sax). The supporting act will be piano and alto sax musicians from Hereford Sixth Form College. Click on the band name to find out more about Debs Hancock.
“Debs Hancock’s smoky, velvet, sophisticated tones have graced stages at jazz festivals in Cheltenham, Swansea, and Fishguard … Debs is devoted to the legacies of the great jazz divas, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington. The Great American Songbook is her book.” – Black Mountain Jazz Club 2020.
The concerts will be socially distanced and seated so that everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. Doors open at 7pm and there will be a bar available to purchase soft drinks and alcohol.
