Homme House Afternoon Tea and Garden Visit In aid of St Michael’s Hospice

Rarely open to the public and a popular wedding venue, Homme House is a Grade II* listed building in over 110 acres of parkland with over 110 acres of beautiful gardens, lakes and paddock, and 80 acres of woodland.

Enter the private estate through a tree-lined driveway to the historic house, formerly owned by Sir John Kyrle and his family. 

Should you visit the house and enjoy afternoon tea, or tour the splendid garden and grounds first? The choice is yours. Stroll through the winding cherry tree walk then continue through to the water feature and steps sweeping down to a bog garden beyond. 

Cross the croquet lawn to enter the woodland walk or enter the two-acre walled garden where you’ll nd summer shrubs in full bloom and the rose garden at its best with sweet scented magnificent blooms in flower.

Find the beech arch to visit the garden’s unique, unaltered Grade I listed 17th century gothic summer house. Climb its spiral stone stairs to enter the main room for peaceful bucolic contemplation and to appreciate stunning views of the Malvern Hills as seen for centuries. 

On entering Homme House you’ll see a magni cent ying staircase leading to what is now a bridal suite. Visit rst the library and then admire the original Georgian panelling and splendid Jacobean replace bearing Sir John Kyrle’s coat of arms in the panelled room. 

The light and spacious dining room provides the perfect setting to enjoy afternoon tea. Adorned with a beautiful gilt chandelier, it features wallpaper over 100-years old and has long sash windows with views to the lawn and water garden beyond. 

Laying claim to the rst ushing toilet in Much Marcle, and used as a war time hospital by the Red Cross, the estate certainly holds much in the way of local historical interest. 

In contrast to the Georgian house is the castellated tower, the only part of the original house to have survived a re in the late 16th century.

Enter the Homme House estate from the B4024 Much Marcle (Dymock road) off the centre of the village. Gates are up the lane to St Bartholomew’s Church. A private drive through the Park will take you to the car park.
