Programme:

Weir                         All the ends of the Earth

Beethoven               Triple Concerto

Vaughan Williams  Serenade to Music

Handel                     Utrecht Te Deum

Performing Beethoven’s rarely programmed “Concerto in C Major for Piano, Violin and Cello Op.56”, better known as the “Triple Concerto”, and possibly the most famous triple concerto in the classical repertoire, the Beethoven “Triple” is unique. It is a solo concerto in which the soloists change from passage to passage, but it is also a trio, in which three musicians perform chamber music on stage. And then it is also a trio with orchestra, with the trio performing together with a full orchestra.

Framing the concert is a selection of celebratory pieces for choir and orchestra. Judith Weir’s joyful motet “All the Ends of the Earth” opens the concert. This is followed by Vaughan Williams’ exquisitely sweet and tender “Serenade to Music” in the second half. Bringing the evening to a close is the glorious “Utrecht Te Deum” by Handel – a jubilant five-part chorale which enthralled audiences from its very first performance.

This is one concert not to be missed!  So, if you haven’t secured your seats yet, now is a good time.
