Volunteer Roles at The Waterworks Museum Hereford

Volunteering hours at The Waterworks Museum in Hereford are very flexible and people are free to work the days that best suit them. The Museum was recently awarded the Queens Award for Volunteer Services – the OBE for volunteers. 

The Museum is open every Tuesday and on some Sundays for Steam Days.

The following roles are currently available

Marketing, Media and Communications

A marketing and communications volunteer is needed to help promote awareness of the Museum.

Activities include: preparing a new marketing plan, developing and implementing external communications and PR, planning and working with the media, creating a social  media plan, and posting material on relevant social channels.

Some of the work could be done remotely/from home.

Museum Administrator

Volunteer administrator to help run the Museum and to provide support to the Directors and Chairman for managing Trustee meetings and planning.

Activities include:

~Maintaining a list of volunteers and members contact details
~ Managing e-mail and postal communications to members and volunteers
~ Help with arranging events at the museum, including liaison with third parties
~ Monitoring the museum’s contact e-mail account and phone messages
~ Supporting Chairman and Directors with planning and other Museum governance activities

Some of the work could be done remotely/from home.

Visitor Services

The Museum is looking for volunteers for a variety of roles to help run the Museum. The roles include welcoming visitors, helping on the Reception desk, helping to develop a small shop, acting as a Museum guide/steward and working behind the scenes to support the running of the Museum. The Museum is normally open every Tuesday throughout the year, with family Open Days on some Sundays.

Volunteer Engineers

Volunteer Engineers are needed all year round to help keep our engines and pumps in good working order and to operate these on family open-days in steam. Help is also needed in maintaining our displays. There are also opportunities to assist the Engineers; you don’t need to be an expert and full training is provided. Engineers’ working day is every Tuesday,

Museum Guides

Guides are needed to welcome and to  work with our visitors to show the Waterworks itself and to demonstrate the artefacts which the museum has rescued, restored and repaired. No technical knowledge needed.
