Picture and Picnic Perfect at The Laskett

Visitors to The Laskett in Herefordshire, one of Perennial’s gardens, can now treat themselves to The Laskett Picnic.

The afternoon tea style picnic by Caption Catering is a delicious addition to the garden that has become a popular visitor attraction since the charity helping people in horticulture opened it to the public. On the menu are freshly made sandwiches and scones with sweet and savoury nibbles accompanied by The Laskett Apple Juice.

Perennial Chief Executive Peter Newman says: “Sir Roy and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman have created a wonderful setting for this tempting picnic with its inspiring combination of plants, garden rooms, topiary, vistas, theatre and the arts with idyllic views of the surrounding Herefordshire countryside.”

One of Britain’s great autobiographical gardens, The Laskett, was created to celebrate the arts by Sir Roy Strong CH and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman CBE. Set in the Herefordshire countryside on the Welsh border and created from a bare field, the gardens began life in 1974 and have continued to evolve. They are the creative fruit of a happy marriage between two people at the centre of the arts for much of the latter half of the twentieth century. In 2021, Sir Roy generously gifted the garden to Perennial. Under the charity’s care, it helps to support all those who work or have worked with plants, trees, flowers or grass by providing free, confidential support, advice and information.

The Laskett Picnic can be enjoyed on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:30am – 1pm or 2:30pm – 5pm. until 31 October 2023 when the garden is open. All picnics need to be booked 48 hours in advance.
